What is Invisalign Teen?
Invisalign Teen is the version of Invisalign clear aligners designed specifically for teenagers. It works exactly the same way as adult Invisalign — using a series of custom-made, virtually invisible plastic aligners to gradually move teeth into alignment, but with a few features added specifically for teenage patients.
The aligners are removable. Your teenager takes them out to eat, to brush their teeth, and for sports. They go back in afterwards. That’s it.
Treatment is planned using Invisalign’s ClinCheck® software, which creates a 3D digital model of your teenager’s teeth and maps out every stage of movement before treatment even begins. You can see the expected result before a single aligner is worn.
At Bayview Dental, we use the iTero® digital scanner to take a precise 3D scan of your teenager’s teeth — no uncomfortable impressions, no messy moulds. The scan takes minutes and is completely comfortable.

Invisalign Teen includes two features that make it more practical for younger patients:
Blue wear indicators.
Each aligner has a small blue dot on it that fades with wear. When the dot has faded, your teenager has worn the aligner for the recommended amount of time. It takes the guesswork out of compliance, and the arguments out of your evenings.
Replacement aligners included.
Teenagers lose things. It happens. Invisalign Teen includes a set of replacement aligners at no additional charge, so a lost aligner doesn’t derail the entire treatment plan or your budget.

Step 1 — Free consultation
We assess your teenager’s teeth, take a digital scan, and discuss whether Invisalign Teen is the right option. You’ll receive a clear outline of likely treatment duration and cost before you commit to anything.
Step 2 — Custom treatment plan
Using Invisalign’s ClinCheck® software, we build a precise 3D treatment plan mapped to your teenager’s individual tooth positions and movement goals. You can preview the expected outcome digitally before treatment begins.
Step 3 — Aligners fitted
Your teenager receives their first set of aligners. We walk them through exactly how to wear them, clean them, and look after them, and answer every question you both have.
Step 4 — Progress check-ins
We see your teenager every 4 to 6 weeks to review progress. We also offer remote monitoring options between visit, your teenager sends us progress photos via their phone, reducing the number of in-clinic appointments needed.
Step 5 — Retention
Once treatment is complete, your teenager will wear a retainer to keep their teeth in their new position. We offer Vivera® retainers by Invisalign, laser-cut, precise, and more durable than standard clear retainers. A fixed (bonded) retainer is also available for patients who prefer a maintenance-free option.

Is My Teenager a Suitable Candidate for Invisalign?
Invisalign Teen is suitable for most teenagers who have their full set of adult teeth, typically from age 13 onwards, though this varies. It can effectively treat a wide range of orthodontic issues including:
- Crowded teeth
- Gapped or spaced teeth
- Overbite
- Underbite
- Crossbite
- Open bite
- Mild to moderate relapse after previous orthodontic treatment
Invisalign is not suitable for every case. Teenagers with very complex skeletal jaw issues, or those who genuinely cannot commit to wearing aligners for the recommended 20 to 22 hours per day, may be better served by another treatment. At what age can my teenager start Invisalign?
Invisalign Teen is generally suitable once your teenager has their full set of adult teeth, which typically occurs around age 13 to 14. Some teenagers may be ready earlier or later depending on their dental development. We assess this at the consultation.
Will Invisalign Teen affect my teenager's speech?
Most teenagers adjust to speaking with aligners within a few days. There may be a very slight adjustment period at the start, but this resolves quickly for the vast majority of patients.
What happens if my teenager loses an aligner?
Invisalign Teen includes replacement aligners at no additional charge. Contact us and we'll arrange a replacement as quickly as possible. In the meantime, your teenager should wear their previous set of aligners to hold their tooth position.
How do I know if my teenager is actually wearing the aligners?

Yes. For non-contact sport, the aligners can be worn during activity. For contact sport — football, hockey, basketball, and similar, we recommend removing the aligners and wearing a custom mouthguard. We can provide a sports mouthguard to use during treatment.
Can my teenager eat normally with Invisalign?
Yes. The aligners are removed for eating and drinking anything other than cool water. There are no food restrictions. Your teenager eats exactly as normal — they just need to brush before reinserting the aligners.
How often does my teenager need to come in for appointments?
