Root Canal Treatment Perth

What is Root Canal Treatment?

Root canal is the treatment to relieve tooth pain by taking the nerve tissues out. By doing a root canal treatment you can repair and save a badly infected or damaged tooth instead of removing it.

The term “root canal” comes from cleaning of the canals inside the tooth’s root and removing the pulp and blood supply.

What are the symptoms of needing a Root Canal Treatment?

  • lingering pain after eating or drinking hot and cold substances
  • swollen face
  • pain when chewing or biting
  • discharge around the effected tooth
  • swollen gum
  • tooth abscesses

Root Canal FAQs

What are the causes of pulp damage?

  • deep-seated and untreated dental decay
  • decay beneath a deep filling
  • trauma that damages a tooth
  • habitual tooth grinding (bruxism)
  • long-standing cracks in the teeth
  • advanced gum disease.

If tooth pulp infection is left untreated, complications could include:

spreading infection – once the pulp becomes infected, it loses its ability to fight the spread of the infection. If bacteria find their way into the pulp chamber, the bacteria will multiply. This can lead to a blister of a draining sinus full of suppuration or pus.

localised bone loss – the infection may spread around the ends of the infected root canal and erode surrounding jaw bone; this may affect the ability to place dental implants in the future.

loss of tooth – the tooth may have to be removed, which interferes with the person’s ability to bite and chew and may affect appearance if the tooth is near the front of the mouth. Tooth replacement with dentures, bridges or dental implants are costly, and usually it is cheaper to try and keep your tooth if at all possible.

A root canal treated tooth often becomes weakened after drilling a large hole straight through the middle of the tooth.

The other reason of putting a crown on following root canal treatment is for cosmetic reasons. After root canal treatment tooth will became yellowish and darker in colour as there is no blood supply to the tooth. For this reason it is a good option to cover the tooth with a crown or veneer following root canal treatment.

Root canal procedures have the reputation of being painful. Actually, most people report that the procedure itself is no more painful than having a filling placed, and generally our patients tend to fall asleep due to the sophisticated equipment we use.

A rubber dam is essential for root canal treatment. They are great for minimizing funny tastes in your mouth.

For the first few days following the completion of a root canal, the tooth may feel sensitive due to natural tissue inflammation. This can be relieved taking over-the-counter medications

With an early diagnosis, root canal treatment is highly successful; the procedure has more than a 95% success rate after 5 years with a crown being placed as well.

The fee varies from $500-$2000 depending on how severe the problem is and the tooth affected.

This fee does not include health insurance rebates and you may be eligible for interest-free payment plans should that be of need.

We are also proud to have teamed up with MySuperCare to assist with early release of superannuation.

The entire process will be completed with a highly trained expert, and estimates will include fees for multiple appointments and dental crowns.

You will be able to discuss sedation options to make the process pain-free.
